Condensate overflow switch

The condensate overflow switch protects your home from water damage.

Short answer

A condensate overflow switch, or float switch, senses water rising in the drain pan or line and shuts the cooling system off before a blocked condensate drain can overflow and damage your home.

Why it matters on your quote

Air conditioners and heat pumps pull water out of the air while cooling, and that water drains away through a condensate line. If the line clogs, water can overflow into a ceiling, attic or closet.

The International Residential Code calls for a water-level detection device that shuts off the equipment where a blocked drain could cause damage, for example in an auxiliary pan under an attic unit. A new drain line and switch are easy to leave off a quote.
